Cala Torta

A totally virgin beach, located on the northern coast of Artà, whose access road snakes between the mountains for some 10 kilometers. From its highest points, you can gaze upon the entire northern coast of the Llevant peninsula and even the island of Menorca on the clearest days.

At the end of the route, the road transforms into a forested lane (which in some stretches can be an uncomfortable ride), and ends at a level area suitable for parking the car. The trail, a bit rugged in places, rewards hikers with one of Mallorca’s best beaches.

Only a small beachside bar hints at any human presence, and there you can enjoy an excellent meal of grilled fresh fish. The rest is pure, unspoiled nature.

A sheer cliff at the right, where you can appreciate the rocks, folded over by millions of years of pressure, the dunes, the pine forests at your back, and a path to Cala Mitjana, Cala Estreta, or Es Matzoc: somewhat smaller beaches, hardly a hundred meters from Cala Torta.

And in front, the Mediterranean in all its splendor. On days when it’s raging, it’s overwhelming to see the giant’s brute force, with immense waves crashing into the rocks and advising us that entering the water would be a fatal move. When calm, it turns into a natural pool of clear, fresh water, where diving in immediately affirms that this small voyage is well worth making.
